A ritual of femme power and connection rooted in two decades of research and participation in street and contemporary dance cultures.
Again, There is No Other (The Remix) is a dark and joyful ritual merging street and contemporary dance forms. The work interrogates fears of the feminine while asking questions about the intrinsic links between gender and race—and how we perform and perceive both through movement. Its five femme-identified performers speak a variety of dance languages: house, hip hop, breaking, contemporary, popping, waacking, vogue femme, vernacular jazz, ballet, and hustle. Through hybridizing the nightclub, the cypher (the circle), and the theater, they explore touch, support, the imperative of connection, the tensions of identity, and the embrace of difference.
