The Shakespearean vision of fathers and daughters in King Lear meets the modern realities of aging and parenthood in the funny and sad, razorsharp and frank Testament. The members of She She Pop bring their own septuagenarian fathers to the stage as they confront the issues of legal successions, hereditary diseases, home care plans, gas receipts, and the overbearing sense of guilt behind their own paternal relationships. Seamlessly integrated live video, Big Band covers, and some father/daughter dances make Testament a radical departure from the Bard’s play of yore. This will be one of only three chances to see the work of She She Pop in North America.
She She Pop, a collective of six women and one man, create theater for the stage, conference tables, ballrooms, campfires and candlelit blind dates. Their work focuses on responsibility, risk and the engagement of audiences in a way that offers viewers a glimpse at the reality of making and participating in a work of art. The company was founded in 1998 and has received numerous awards, including Testament being named one of the top ten German shows of the year at the Berliner Theatertreffen.
