"A work of extraordinary depth and physical and musical deftness" - Artspoken, South Africa
The struggles of indomitable 19th-century Xhosa chief Jongum-sobomvu Maqoma come to life in this stunning work by his direct descendent. South African choreographer Gregory Maqoma takes inspiration from his ancestral past in a performance exploring race, political power and the struggle to maintain tradition in the face of colonialism. Featuring live music by Italian guitarist Giuliano Modarelli with the four exceptional singers of the South African Ensemble, Complete.
