Over the past several years, KT Niehoff created several projects that radically reconceptualize how artists and audiences interact. The ultimate realization of this is Collision Theory, in which she and music collaborator Ivory Smith invite the Seattle community to take part in the creation of a city-wide piece that began at the 2012 NW New Works Festival and culminates in a performance at OtB, The Finale. Following months filled with multiple “immersions” including music releases, dinner parties, films, fashion shows and quiet pen pal exchanges, The Finale distills a year’s worth of activity into an intimate yet ambitiously scaled evening of dance and music.
KT Niehoff is a choreographer, vocalist, director and art innovator. With Lingo Productions, her umbrella for creating dance, music, film and more, she makes work that explores the proximal relationship between the art, the audience and the artist—physically, emotionally and psychologically. Among her numerous accomplishments she has received fellowships from Artist Trust and the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography, been named “Dance Artist of the Year” by Seattle Magazine (2007), and was featured on the cover of Dance Teacher Magazine (2012). Her work has been supported by the National Dance Project, the National Performance Network, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the MAP Fund. She was a founder of Velocity Dance Center and is currently the director of 10 degrees performance art space on Capitol Hill.
The Finale was co-commissioned and supported through On the Boards’ Dance Production Program and ACT Theatre.
