In the spirit of collaboration and inspired by Miguel Gutierrez and the Powerful People’s And lose the name of action March 6 – 9, 2014, On the Boards Ambassador Team 4 invited Seattle’s Blood Ensemble to host a workshop on developing a creative, democratic dialogue for the creation of new work for artists of different genres.

Dayo is one of Blood Ensemble's Co-Artistic Directors and Founders that helped lead the wrokshop entitled UNSTUCK.

I have few words to describe the depth of gratitude I feel after the opportunity to host this workshop at OtB. I could wax poetic about the brilliant artists, the beautiful moments we created, or the fantastic conversation coming out of it… but I have something else I’d rather talk about.

Community.

This workshop was a brilliant display of people coming together behind something we love: art. And don’t we all do art for the community? For our audiences? For our friends? For our fellow collaborators? Aren’t we all here to push each other? To share our perceptions of the world in our many and varied ways? Don’t artists exist to make us look at things differently?

This workshop was all of those things for me. To see complete strangers work toward a common goal and share their talents with each other so selflessly is something that will stick with me forever.

I can’t thank Brett Love enough for making this happen. The community he displayed for pushing for it… for being the social connector he is. For using his power for good. For being the reason why I got to see some amazing things on Saturday… for being the reason we got the amazing artists in the room that we did. It’s the desire to bring people together that makes Brett such a valuable person in our community. He wants, more than anything, to see people he respects work together. I can’t thank him enough for creating community.

I don’t think anyone can thank him enough for having that desire. But we’ll definitely try.

And to thank On the Boards… how do I do that? Sean Ryan, the Ambassador Team, On the Boards as a whole… thank you. You trusted our young company with our untested process and said, GO FOR IT! That right there is what On the Boards stands for: GO FOR IT. I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to create such community.

So, I say, with my glass raised, “To community! To artistic community!”
