Baron Samedi Curator Note May 8, 2014

At the beginning of the season, we inscribed a quote from the late performance philosopher Herb Blau above the main stage entrance that asks, “What is not theater?” Now, several months later as we enter the final weeks of our 13/14 programming, I’m thinking about Herb once again and his rather famous idea that performers are in one way or another depicting their own deaths each time they go on stage before an audience.

Performers of Baron Samedi: Olivier Normand May 6, 2014

Olivier Normand was born in 1983. He lives and works in Paris. Having studied Literature at the prestigious Ecole Normale Supérieure, he studied contemporary dance in the ex.e.r.ce programme under the direction of Mathilde Monnier and Xavier Le Roy at the CCN of Montpellier, and in the Transforme programme at the abbey of Royaumont under the direction of Myriam Gourfink. He has danced with several ranking choreographers: Mathilde Monnier, Christophe Fiat, Dominique Brun, Alain Buffard and Fanny de Chaillé. He also participates in the activities of the Encyclopedia of the Word.
