Sounds from The Shore Oct 16, 2015

by Petra Zanki

It comes and it runs away
it comes and it runs away
it comes and it runs away
the wind through the leaves of poplars

*

and then listen and observe, silent voices, noises, hush, who is speaking, who is talking, who is breathing, who is listening, where are you running, where are they going, people, cars, airplanes, birds, plants, stones, too much noise, too much movement, houses, where are they going, who is talking, they are swaying, skies, they are swaying, cars, who is breaking, who is talking, skies are swaying, trees are silent.

*

Are they dancing?

They are whispering

They are whispering
They are whispering
They are whispering
They are whispering

sounds we forgot and now all sing

They are whispering

*

My plant is called Aloe
her hair is fuzzy and she is not doing well
she likes to take long walks from time to time.
With me.
On stage.

My plant is called
what was your name, again, plant?
my plant and I just got to know each other
I think she is the best

My plant is called Olive
She should have been in California
instead of here
One day
I’ll learn how to drive
and bring her back home

that will definitely not be a sad goodbye

*

Our plant started loosing
leaf after leaf after leaf day after day after day
and each day we tried to save her and hide our pain
but it kept loosing
leaf after leaf after leaf day after day
and each day we watered her to hide our pain
but it kept
loosing
leaf after leaf day after day
we potted her, planted her, sunned her
not talking not looking not
and we pretended that it didn’t mean anything
even when her flowers were not flowers any more
we pretended that it didn’t mean anything
that love didn’t mean anything to our plant

*

listen
they are whispering
earth is quaking

*

home, say, home
save me

hold me
sing me

with your both hands
