NW New Works 2017: Wade Madsen Jun 12, 2017
Weekend 1 of NW New Works was an exhilarating whirlwind of performances from 8 standout artists from Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver BC — are you ready for 8 more? Weekend 2 is almost here!
Wade Madsen and 17 performers of all ages bring a dance to the Mainstage that captures the essence of what it is to be human and to look at life unfolding.
Madsen writes, “This work is inspired by the viewing of dancers and people every day. The sounds are taken from various places and experiences in daily life. My own life experiences have drawn me to this moment of the work. There is magic in our daily life, it is all in how we witness it.”
‘People’ features a cast of notable local performers and choreographers, including Chloe Albin, Rachel Brummer, Noam Gagnon, Jamie Karlovich, Nahshon Marden, Bronte Mayo, Peggy Piacenza, Calie Swedberg, Alia Swersky, Eric Pitsenbarger, Lisa Ravenhoult, Laila Jane Rosen, Amy Ross, Tara Stepenberg, Sean Tomerlin as well as OtB 15/16 Season artist Pat Graney (‘Girl Gods’) and 16/17 Season artist Ezra Dickinson (‘Psychic Radio Star’).
Wade Madsen is a teacher, performer, and choreographer based in Seattle since 1977. As a professor of dance, he has received the ‘Outstanding Teacher of the Year’ award three times during his career at Cornish College of the Arts. A former member of the Bill Evans Dance Company (1978–1980) and Tandy Beal & Company (1981–1982), Madsen has also performed with Amy O’Neal and Amii LeGendre dance groups along with Dayna Hanson, A.C Petersen, and Long Nguyen. Madsen has twice been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Choreographer Fellowship (1996–98) and has received grants and fellowships from the Seattle Arts Commission, Bossak Heilbron Foundation, Allied Arts, and Artist Trust. Since 1979 Madsen has been producing and performing works with his company, Wade Madsen & Dancers.
