NW New Works 2017: Ella Mahler Jun 13, 2017
In the NWNW Studio Showcase this weekend (June 16-18), Really, it’s this. by choreographer Ella Mahler presents two dancers who sort through any and all strategies in their search for “this” – an ever-changing, perhaps never-arriving solution or answer.
Really, it's this. is the final installment of a 3-piece series; the first two works include:
- this and this too – a duet commissioned by Relay Dance Collective which premiered at Velocity Dance Center in April 2016. The work has since received a 2016 “DanceCrush” award by SeattleDances, and has also been reset and performed by Bellingham Repertory Dance in 2017.
- It can also be this – a dance film that had its premiere in Velocity Dance Center’s Next Dance Cinema festival at the Northwest Film Forum and received a 2016 Audience Choice Award.
Ella Mahler is dance artist living in Seattle, with a BFA in Choreography/Performance from Western Washington University. She has been a performer for Catherine Cabeen - Hyphen (2009-2013), Kuntz & Company (2010-2015), and Bellingham Repertory Dance (2010-2013), as well as for artists such as Amelia Reeber, Bianca Cabrera, and Paige Barnes. As a choreographer, Ella has presented her own work in Seattle, Bellingham, Salt Lake City, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. Through process and performance, Ella examines the ways in which movement facilitates how we uniquely perceive/experience each other and ourselves.
Ella Mahler joins Linda Austin Dance, Mother Tongue, and Julie Hammond in the final Studio Showcase for NW New Works 2017, running Friday, June 16 - Sunday, June 18. Hot tip: the Studio Showcases tend to sell out early! Get your tickets soon!
