In memory of Sally Behnke (1923 - 2013) Dec 19, 2013

We at On the Boards will miss Sally Behnke and we honor the rich legacy she leaves behind. Sally was a model for us of respect and integrity and her underscoring of the importance of running an organization with these values has greatly impacted OtB. The strength of the Behnke family values is clearly seen in the ongoing care and engagement by her children and their families in the artistic community. We are proud to benefit from her son John’s leadership and guidance on our board since 1988.  Sally supported On the Boards during our strongest times and our hardest years, when we needed help the most. We are truly honored and forever grateful that she and her family gave the capping gift that paved the way for us to move into our current home in lower Queen Anne (the Behnke Center for Contemporary Performance) in 1998.

In 1998, the Seattle Times wrote an article announcing the final gift in OtB's capital campaign and a new title for the building, the Behnke Center for Contemporary Performance, in honor of John and Shari Behnke, and John's parents, Robert and Sally Behnke.

Here is an article from the Business Journal reflecting on Sally's time with us.
