Inside Arts article Jan 26, 2007

A version of the following article was published in the Jan/Feb 2007 edition of Inside Arts Magazine. The topic? What will my job be like 50 years from now?

When the New York Times announced earlier this fall that the Metropolitan Opera would begin broadcasting live performances in movie theaters in North America and Europe, it was curious to note that this was not the first time the Met had used such a strategy for reaching audiences. In 1952, approximately 70,000 people in 27 cities saw Carmen in movie theaters.

Allen Johnson: Another You Gets Reviewed Jan 24, 2007

Allen Johnson's New York debut of Another You garnered an amazing review on the nytheater.com website! Awesome.
"... Allen Johnson's Another You is the single most powerful thing I've seen on stage in years. The big picture of the show is that of a man exploring his less-than-traditional relationship with sex, partly as the result of an abusive childhood.

Historic moment for Seattle - Olympic Sculpture Park Jan 16, 2007

Seattle is so freaking lucky. The new sculpture park is opening this weekend and it is totally breathtaking. I had a little sneak preview a few days ago and feel privileged to live in a town that supports art with such a fabulous, accessible, beautiful and environmental outlook. Chris Rogers (OtB's Board President) was the project manager for the park - he and the rest of the visionaries who advocated for and supported this project should be commended.

On the Road with Allen Johnson Jan 11, 2007

Allen Johnson’s solo performance Another You is back on the road again. Premiering in last year's Northwest Artist Series here at OtB and the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art’s (PICA) Time Based Art Festival to much acclaim, Johnson’s show has gone global. Just returning from a three city tour in Germany in early December, Johnson, and crew (sound designer Justin Gerardy, lighting designer Michael White, & director Sean Ryan) met up for a few rehearsals in early January to gear up for Johnson’s upcoming performance at The Public Theater’s UNDER THE RADAR.

Good News: Forced Entertainment Jan 10, 2007

The good news: Yesterday, I reserved four tickets and a table at Joe's Pub in NYC to see the incomporable Kiki and Herb perform Sun., Jan 21st.

The bad news: I can't go to Vancouver this week to see the return of theater titans Forced Entertainment to the Northwest corner of North America at the Push Festival. They're performing QUIZOOLA! on January 10th and EXQUISITE PAIN on the 11-13th. Anyone that caught BLOODY MESS last season at OtB knows what a cool opportunity this is see one of the most innovative and entertaining theater companies in the world.

While 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' doesn't scream OtB to me... Jan 9, 2007

...and I wouldn't nominate it as our theme song, something about Kiki & Herb performing it feels oh so right and warrants a listen. Check out this music video to see Kiki & Herb do the song justice (features footage of young Coco!). And because there isn't nearly enough Kiki & Herb on this blog, please enjoy this photo:
