“Waller has a gorgeously androgynous voice, both as a singer and songwriter — one that cuts through ordinary and extraordinary situations with delicacy and emotional precision” - NPR
A modern-day troubadour lends his lilting voice to an original music theater meditation on our radically evolving dependence on the technology of navigation. Invoked by a 6-performer ensemble of musicians and singers and a small army of theatrical designers, Wayfinders ruminates on the central role of navigation within our everyday consciousness. From star-maps to GPS to the future ubiquity of auto-piloting travel, Wayfinders weaves sung stories, video imagery and arranged/improvised music to investigate how technology can both illuminate and obscure the simple question: Where am I?
Holcombe Waller is a singer, composer and theater artist. He has recorded and toured in support of Into the Dark Unknown: The Hope Chest (co-commissioned by On the Boards), an album of songs from the 2008 music theater performance of the same name, in addition to numerous other interdisciplinary projects and recorded works. He is an avid collaborator with dance, most notably with zoe | juniper, Miguel Gutierrez and the Joe Goode Performance Group.
Wayfinders was commissioned and supported through On the Boards’ Performance Production Program.
