“An elegant, economic production that delivers on its promise to stay with you long after you leave.” ★★★★ — The Guardian

Poised in the delicate space between concert and theatre, Endings is a meditation on cycles and the ending of things. The ordinary and the extraordinary cluster around death, dying, and the afterlife. The manifestation of these moments take form through the use of portable turntables, reel-to-reel tape players and live performance. This hybrid work is built in part from one-on-one interviews; these stories, reflections, and voices are cut onto vinyl records and embedded within a richly textured electro-acoustic sound design that is extended through live singing. This performance features the songs and vocals of acclaimed singer/songwriter Paddy Mann (Grand Salvo).

Building on over twenty years experience, Tamara Saulwick’s individual practice has coalesced in recent years into a singular and compelling voice. Utilising digital, mobile, and analogue technologies, with a particular emphasis placed on the role of sound in live performance, her works reflect on how we as individuals connect, confront, and interact with one another. Her major works include Alter (2016), Endings (2015), PUBLIC (2013), and Pin Drop (2010). Tamara is an Australia Council for the Arts Fellow and the Artistic Director of Chamber Made Opera. Her first work for the company, Permission To Speak premiered in late 2016.

Endings has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body, and the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria. Commissioned by Performance Space and the City of Melbourne’s Arts House.
