The audacious and lavish style of Saint Genet becomes even more spectacular as they enter OtB’s Mainstage Theater. Paradisiacal Rites transforms elements of ballet, symphony, opera and installation into a hypnotic and visceral performance. Everything and nothing is sacred in this show that takes its inspiration from all that is fueled by blood, booze and bands. Saint Genet’s director Ryan Mitchell assembles an all-star team for Paradisiacal Rites, including choreographer Jessie Smith, visual artists Casey Curran and NKO, and a body politic of performers, dancers, composers, singers, bike messengers and ballerinas.

Saint Genet is a collection of artists creating work around the singular vision of Ryan Mitchell. The young auteur has swiftly become one of the most sought-after creators locally since his days as the co-founder and director of Implied Violence, the Stranger Genius Award-winning company. His works have been seen nationally and internationally, including a museum exhibition Implied Violence: Yes and More and Yes and Why (The Frye Art Museum, 2010) and an appearance at The Guggenheim NYC’s Works and Process Festival curated by Robert Wilson.

Paradisiacal Rites was co-commissioned by donaufestival in Krems, Austria and Luminato Festival in Toronto, Canada.

Note: this performance contains fog, strobe lights and smoking onstage.
