Always irreverent and forever curious, Miguel Gutierrez and six award-winning performers create an evening-length séance that examines the ghostlike traces that dance leaves on the body and mind. Inspired by Jørgen Lethem’s short film The Perfect Human, the elusive logic of dance improvisation, philosophical quandaries about the brain and the 19th century spiritualist movement, And lose the name of action draws connections between the analytical and the unexplainable as it grapples with the limits of language and the ever present specter of death. While Gutierrez has performed smaller solo works in Seattle over the past few years, this long awaited group project marks the choreographer’s first time appearing at OtB.

Miguel Gutierrez is a US-based choreographer and director known for hyper-intelligent yet infinitely playful performances. With his project-based company of NYC’s finest talents, the Powerful People, he has created numerous productions and gained international notoriety for his works that translate the experiential nature of performing into a sensory experience for the audience. Gutierrez is known to Seattle audiences for Retrospective Exhibitionist and Difficult Bodies (Velocity) and for his time as a teacher and performer with the Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation.

Co-commissioned by On the Boards, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Portland Institute for Contemporary Art and the National Performance Network. And lose the name of action was supported through On the Boards’ Dance Production Program.

*This performance has limited seating.
