Tell us what you thought about Newyorkland Nov 18, 2011

As the country is surrounded by news concerning cops, government policy and human behavior, we are particularly interested in your thoughts about Newyorkland.
What did you take away from the performance? How does it make you feel about your local police force? What about the restrained style? What did you think about the integration of text, film and media within the performance?

Temporary Distortion explore an interesting subject that requires more understanding from our society. Our police force needs more support and resources to ensure their psychological health and not to be weighed down by the daily stress of the job. They need more support and understanding from their families, and understanding from the society will probably also help. I have a family friend who works as a police officer, so I totally understand the type of difficulty involved with the job. I would think to reduce working hours during stressful times and to have more consulting/stress-relief programs available are the key solutions, but the funding is always an issue. Theater-wise the piece felt too much of a social documentary to me. Social-documentary theater is nice but I was expecting something different, or more, from OtB. The thread and content of the performance were all very easy to follow, and there was not a hit or twist in the art form. It was too easy.
NewYorkLand
Boring, and cliched. I kept on checking my watch after the first 20 minutes. None of the material was anything anyone who has been alive for 30 years does not know or understand. The technical aspects were interesting, for a while but not mesmerizing enough to make up for the content, which was lacking. For me this was the least interesting show at OTB that I've seen, not the worst just the one with nothing to it.
My son and I absolutely loved
My son and I absolutely loved it!! A thoughtful and powerful exploration of our complex feelings about cops, as well as a sneak peek into their isolated reality. Only complaint was the loud, garbled sound quality overwhelmed us some of the time. The actors were phenomenal, and the video/live action medium was unexpectedly engrossing. Thanks for a great experience.
