tEEth, the winner of the 2011 The A.W.A.R.D. Show!, are holding auditions for the upcoming season. Here's what they're looking for:
There are some shows that don't need a story, don't need an explanation, don't need a meaning. Kidd Pivot's Dark Matter was just that show. I was in pure Heaven for well over 75% of this performance. After their incredible tour-de-force Lost Action last year, I was willing to watch literally anything they wanted to show me.
Take away any gender connotations from the term Patriarchal Power, and it seems like the best term to describe Kidd Pivot Frankfurt RM's "Dark Matters." Can an artist’s creation take such a hold, that it can literally take over their creator's lives? Crystal Pite's creation has that certain quality to it, generating the type of ambiguity that begs to be analyzed further.
"This is, in short, art of the highest caliber. And it's spellbinding." - Seattle Times
Tonight, “Dark Matters” performed by Kidd Pivot and choreographed by Crystal Pite opened to a sold out audience at On the Boards. Pite’s work has been seen at OtB two other times as well. It is amazing when any artist can live up to the hype and judging by the standing ovation and the howling love at the end of the first movement, Ms.
Did you come see the Kidd Pivot show? Did you see their last show here or is this the first time you've witnessed Crystal Pite's choreography? Give us your thoughts on the performance!
All performances of Kidd Pivot's Dark Matters are SOLD OUT.
"You'd have to go back all the way to Mark Morris to find a choreographer from our corner of the world who's had as much of an impact on the international dance scene as British Columbia's Crystal Pite." - Seattle Times
Crystal Pite is an OtB alum and audience favorite, but here are some things you may or may not know about her and her company, Kidd Pivot Frankfurt RM.
The title Dark Matter refers to the astronomical term for the unknown and invisible matter that is the majority of our universe.
Last night was the third time I watched Paul Budraitis performed the project. The first time I watched in OtB 12 MM, the second time in 2009 Artopia. It was fascinating being able to see the different stages of this work being developed over the years.
This show is filled with reflective surfaces, on stage and in the text. Light bounces off aluminum creating atmosphere and focus, the back wall ripples with reflections from a pool (a sewer? Puget Sound?) agitated with pennies and movement. Broken glass absorbs what is thrown at it. The light design of this show is breathtaking (L.B.
Reviews of (IN)STABILITY are just starting to come out. Check them out:

Two previews are out this morning describing Paul Budraitis' (IN)STABILITY:
OtB will do a waiting list for each sold out night. To get on the waiting list, call or stop by the box office (206.217.9888) on the day of the performance you wish to attend.
Getting ready for (IN)STABILITY this weekend? Here are a few quick things to know about Paul Budraitis:
Jody Kuehner of The Cherdonna and Lou Show contacted us to let us know that a big discussion has begun about the question of what classifies as dance and the importance of classification in reponse to their performance at The A.W.A.R.D. Show!. Early in the weekend she posted:
The A.W.A.R.D. Show! may be closed, but the reviews and recaps keep rolling in. Here's where you can check out more coverage of night's 3, 4 and the whole thing:
