Here's what she thought is one of the biggest arts stories so far in 2010:
I may just be thinking locally here, but my mind immediately goes to 4Culture’s funding issues, and the push to get funding bills through the Legislature in a short, overloaded session (and then some!). Not particularly artistic, but it definitely got the policy nerd in me talking!

Her favorite moment of the past 09/10 season:
Seattle Children’s Theatre’s A Tale of Two Cities. It was great because I was able to bring my 9 year old little sister to the theatre and introduce her to the joys of watching a play together.

I moved to the West coast ten years ago. One thing I have always regretted was not traveling by land to get here. I imagine the physical passage through the enormous American landscape to be a profound, challenging, dramatic experience.

Michael Upchurch at Seattle Times reviews West:
In "West," their epic-scale and near-epic-length new show at On the Boards, the video wizardry of "Awesome" (always in quotes) has taken a quantum leap. The white silhouette of a galloping horse ripples across a rugged backdrop. A night-sky is unveiled inside a packing crate. Trickles of blood drip down from where you least expect them.
These fancy flourishes are all part of a dreamlike meditation on the myths and transformations of the American West that's both ambitious and ambiguous.

If you're going to call yourself "Awesome," you'd better have a good sense of humor or be very, very good.
"Awesome," the seven-piece Seattle band/performance troupe, doesn't take itself too seriously. And they've definitely got the skills to match the lofty status their name implies.

The translucent white lighting and the flowing white costumes immediately convey ritual and sanctity. It's as though we've entered hallowed ground and we are as much a part of the experience as the performers we're watching.

Morgan Thorson's Heaven provides us with a frozen spiritual. Set against a stark white back drop with floating icicle like beads and glistening sheer curtains on the side, the performance opens with the howl of a wind fan, as the dancers glide slowly in formation across the white floor.

I was healed and delivered tonight at the Morgan Thorson/ Low performance at On the Boards. It was easily my favorite dance performance of the OTB season. I ended the show with a warm smile and cleansed of my transgressions. Don't miss it. You owe yourself something this good. So much of what usually attracts me to contemporary dance are the engaging synthetics of the modern oeuvre.
