THE TOURNAMENT

We currently have 25 teams signed up to play and have created a tournament bracket of 4 rounds (similar to the NCAA).  As a result of our huge response, we will need to begin our tournament a bit earlier than anticipated and hope this is not an inconvenience. This is what we have proposed:

Round 1 (3:30pm – 5:30pm): Teams will play the best 2 out of 3 games (games to 11). We will have 3 start times: 3:30pm, 4:00pm, 4:30pm and 5:00pm (you will be assigned a time in advance)

Round 2: (5:30 –6:30): The 16 winning teams will play the best 2 out of 3 games (games to 11). We will have 2 start times: 5:30pm and 6:00pm

Round 3 (6:30 – 7:00): The 8 winning teams will play the best 2 out of 3 games (games to 11).

Round 4 (7:00-7:30): The 4 winning teams will play the best 2 out of 3 games (games to 11). We will have a “wildcard” court available for those interested in continued play

Round 5 (8:00): The 2 final teams will play best 2 out of 3 games (games to 21). We will have a “wildcard” court available for those interested in continued play (we are looking to play this on our mainstage)

**Times may change depending on final bracket selection.  We will pull teams for bracket placements on Thursday, September 4th.

THE TEAMS

Each organization is allowed to submit 1 official team. This team can consist of 2 players and an alternate. Players must be either staff or board members.

Please send us your teams by September 15th.

THE RULES

We will play by the International Badminton Federation’s “Laws of Badminton”, with games played to 11 points.

OtB’s Sean Ryan will serve as head referee and will assemble oversee referees for each game. If someone from your organization would like to serve as a referee, please email sean@ontheboards.org.

THE AWARDS & TOURNAMENT PRIZES

Of course, the winner will receive something along the lines of the Stanley Cup.

Since we are the arts, we also will compile a team of independent judges to award prizes for the following:
Best team costume (extra points for sequins)
Best smack-talking remarks
Most artistic playing
Most team spirit
Best crowd cheer
Team that tried the hardest
Team that should stick to the arts

If you have another category that you think we should add, please let us know and we will compile a final list by September 15.

PREPARATION PARTY

On Wednesday, September 16th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm we invite members of any participation organization to come by OtB and help us prepare.

We will have iron-on decals of the Badminton Royale official logo. Bring your own shirt and any additional iron-on decals you would like.

We will also have poster board and paint for persons interested in making signs in support of your team.

We will also have 1 non-official Badminton court set up for any practice.

We will also have a bucket of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.

Please try and RSVP so that we know what to expect.

TAILGATE PARTY, aka “THE BIG DAY”

Each year OtB hosts a tailgate party in our parking lot to launch our new season – this year Badminton Royale will be the focus of this party.

A few details for you to know about the party: We will fence off the parking lot across the street from OtB (100 W. Roy Street). The party is free. We will have 2 local food vendors (Marination Mobile and hot dogs) for food. We will also have $1 beers and other beverages (this event is officially 21+).  Official party time was 5-9pm, but we will obviously have to start earlier…
